Greenbank Cove is in the middle of the North Cliffs on the North Coast of Cornwall between Portreath and Navax Head and it’s a half hour clamber and slide to get down there.
This painting was painted largely ‘plein air’ as the tide swept in. The longer I stared at the breaking waves on the shore the more colours appeared and shifted as the waves retreated from the sand.
As usual the rocks began to adopt character as the afternoon progressed.
I finished and then began the longer struggle back up the rock face with the canvas.
