Sandy’s latest body of work is inspired by the Cornish land and seascapes; drawing upon the light, patterns and colours that surround her. Sandy enjoys working directly with the glass to capture a response to a time, mood or place. She creates her work by not only using colour, but also by layering and building texture and relief in the kiln.
Sandy takes pleasure in the challenges that glass offers and takes full advantage of ‘accidents’ that occur in or out of the kiln creating unintended, but often exciting effects.
Sandy originally trained in textiles. After developing an interest in glass she undertook postgraduate studies at Central St Martin’s College in architectural stained glass where she learnt an array of glass techniques which she continues to develop.
