Lucy Barnfather

Living in Cornwall is inspiring for artist Lucy Barnfather. Influenced by the wild sea bound nature of this place, her paintings seek to express of her relationship with the world she lives in. She is looking to represent a moment of awareness and feeling rather than a physical space.

Her paintings include elements that could easily represent doorways or windows, combined with more intimate objects such as flowers, jugs, tables and chairs, boats and birds. Although the work is abstract in nature, it always includes recognisable subjects which give connection and meaning to her work. Keeping a playful element she works to build up layers, colour and texture, seeking an interplay between subject and abstraction.
