About Cornish Galleries
Mariëlle Newton and Mark Gibbons launched Cornish Galleries, as the first online platform dedicated to promoting Cornish art, in 2018.
Mariëlle is a Dutch artist who married a Cornish man and relocated here in 2003 after completing a degree in photography and design at the University of Arts in Utrecht (Netherlands). Mark, whose parents were West Country potters and artists, relocated to Cornwall in 2012 having spent the best part of two decades building online solutions while heading a digital agency in London.
Together they set out to build a curated platform that would represent contemporary Cornish artists – from established exhibitors to talented newcomers – and promote Cornish art in its entirety – from traditional seascapes to abstract and experimental work – to a global online audience.
Cornish Galleries now attracts thousands of art lovers and collectors every month and has sold work directly from artists to clients throughout the UK and as far afield as New York and Australia.
It is a labour of love for Mariëlle and Mark who continue to innovate new marketing channels and revenue streams to support the artists they represent.
